Moving into the condo!

Not sure where I left off or what I've written about our move from utah back to CA but it's been a crazy few weeks. I tried to stay at Josh's parents and just couldn't. I didn't feel very comfortable or welcome there. They were on vacation out of the country when Jackson and I got there and I figured he had told them we would be staying there too, but he didn't. So they got home and were surprised that we were there. Their house is not baby friendly at all and despite it being a large house their was no room for us because they have so much stuff...so Jackson and I went to my grandmas and stayed there. My brother and his wife went to Mexico for work for a week so they offered up their house for is to stay, so for the past week we've been at his house and it's been so nice to all be together and have space. Josh and I slept in their guest room and Jackson slept in the room that Sami does/trains Pilates and yoga in so it's an empty room. I was able to set up his pack and play and diaper changing station on the floor and have his clothes in there. The get back tonight so I'm cleaning up, washing the sheets and towels, and packing up to go back over to my grandmas. BUT we will be moving into the condo on Friday! A misunderstanding with the moving company had our stuff on our way to us before we wanted it. Originally we had planned on moving in this weekend but with all the issues we've had with closing on our house in utah we decided to put it off until the next weekend to make sure we'd have the money for everything in time...well the moving company called to say our stuff would be delivered on Friday. We called our soon to be landlord (a realtor that owns the townhouse/condo we'll be renting) and she agreed to let us get the keys on Thursday night and move in on Friday. We're having to burrow money from my mom to do all this since we still haven't closed on the house and then as soon as we close we'll pay her back.

Selling our house in utah has been a huge headache, one thing after another has gone wrong. The latest is that they didn't have adequate funds to show to the bank (401k etc) so they had to have family wire them money to show they had what the bank wanted. They were supposed to sign the paperwork last night and josh is supposed to sign everything today, we haven't heard from our realtor yet but I'm hoping and praying that they did actually sign last night and josh can sign today and we can be done! Its just been a disaster.

But I can't wait to get into the condo. Have all of our stuff. Sleep in our own beds and get back into our routine! But I need to find a job. We can't afford to live there without me bringing in some money so I need to find something ASAP. I'd really like to babysit out of our home, but I haven't been able to find anything yet, so I might have to find something where I can work when josh can be home with J, like afternoon/evenings and weekends. I'm going to keep trying to find a babysitting job, but I'll have to start looking at other jobs too.

5k

Two months from yesterday I will be running my first 5k! It's something I've always wanted to do once I get in shape, but my best friend and her sisters signed up for it and she asked me if I wanted to. So I bit the bullet and signed up. We are doing the couch to 5k training program that is 8 weeks long and we have almost 9 weeks until the 5k. I'm hoping I can lose some weight and be prepared for this, and do decently in it.

I'm going to be house sitting for nick and Sami for 8 days and I'll be taking full advantage if their garage gym! And as soon as we get into our place I plan in doing the couch to 5k or going on a walk on off days AND doing a workout video everyday. I really need to work on my nutrition and get my eating (especially snacking) under control. I need to make a plan and stick to it. Costco has really good salads and they are inexpensive so I plan on stocking up on them. I actually got 6 today and had one for lunch. I need to make healthier dinner for josh and I. I really want to start trying to have another baby but I want to lose some major weight first. My goal is to be able to go shopping and buy some cute and stylish outfits to wear during the holidays and feel confident and good about myself in them! So that's almost 4 months to do some major damage!

A place in SCV

We've been looking on a few websites for places to rent and haven't had much success. We came across a few scams and a lot of places we can't afford. There was a house that would have been perfect...but there was a waiting list and we would have been #28 on that list. So today we went to look at apartments. We looked at the first place, kinda old, not great, especially for the price. We went to lunch and dropped J with my mom to play and take a nap. We decided to go look at The Colony Townhouses...where me and an ex boyfriend were roommates with josh 10 years ago...yeah...kinda weird...but they are really nice. You get a lot for your money there. And they were the same price as the places we looked at earlier. We decided to just do it. We filled out the applications and got everything set up. It's a 3 story townhome with garage and laundry on first floor. Front door, patio, kitchen, dining area, living room and half bath on second floor. 2 bedrooms with their own bathrooms and balcony on 3rd floor. Garage and washer/dryer were on our must have list. We like the layout and the area, plus it has nice finishes and feels clean and new so it feels more homey. Our background checks should come thru Monday and Josh needs to take them 4 pay stubs as proof of income and then we'll sign the lease agreement. I don't see anything going wrong so hopefully everything will be good to go and our move in date will be September 6, 2 weeks from now. I can't wait to get in there with our own stuff and have our own space and get settled in and organized. We are signing a 1 year lease. As much as I loved having my mom living with us in Utah I'm exited/ready/happy for it to be just josh, me and Jackson. I know josh didn't love my mom living with us so I really think it'll be good for our little family and help our relationship. But the rent is still more then what our mortgage plus homeowners together was in Utah and money will be really tight. For this to work I really need to bring in some money to help us. I've applied at the gym that Sami works at to work in the childcare but I haven't heard anything yet. I'm really hoping to get a job there. I think it would work out really well and I would get a free gym membership there! Kat belongs to that gym so we could work out together! If that doesn't pan out then I will be looking to babysit.

So while finding a place and looking forward to getting into it and getting our family back together (he's at his parents and me and J are at my gma's) it's also a little stressful thinking about the cost and being able to manage it! I'm hoping and praying things are going to work out well for us!

Moving

Tonight is my last night in our home. Today we dropped off the cable boxes at the comcast store and picked up the uhaul trailer that I'm towing behind my car. I finished packing up J's nursery and it made me a little sad. I'm so happy to be moving back to CA, but that little room was so sweet. It's the room I created for my baby boy. His very first bedroom. It made me sad to pack it all up, not knowing where we'll end up in CA. While I'm happy to be leaving I'll miss our first home.

Utah is a beautiful place and I've loved to experience the seasons (SNOW!!!) but it isn't home. Before we had J it wasn't too bad, but since having him we've really realized that this isn't where we want to raise our kids. I've had a really hard time making friends here. I'm sure maybe I could have tried harder and become friendlier with my Mormon neighbors, but let's be real, they're never going to go out for a girls night with me for a few drinks or BBQ and have some margaritas and beer with us. I want weekend BBQs where I make the latest fruity drink I find on Pinterest and the guys drink beer and our kiddos play...we're not going to find that here. We need friends. We need fun. We need to feel like we fit in and not majorly stand out.

But I'd be lying if I said I wasn't scared. It's so expensive in CA! And with me not working we're barely making it as it is. I'll have to find something to do to make money. Hopefully watch someone's child in our home. If we ever have a home. We'll be staying Josh's parents for a month or so to save some money and look for a place to live. But a 2 bedroom apartment is more expensive then the mortgage on our 4 bedroom house. And I REALLY want to have another baby in the near future, but how in the world are we going to do that.

It's going to be crazy, scary, and exciting. CA here we come!

Breastfeeding

I've been having a hard time getting J to nurse for over month. Sometimes he'd nurse just fine but most of the time he just wasn't interested. At first I thought it was a nursing strike, I stuck with it and after a few days it got better. Then it got worse again. I have some frozen milk so I started giving him that in a sippy cup and he took it well, but I didn't have enough to get us to a year. So I talked to our pedi last week and he said we could start milk. I try to nurse him first thing in the morning and once or twice throughout the day and at bedtime but he just doesn't want to. Usually first thing in the morning he nurses well, the rest of the day he has his sippy cup and is perfectly happy with that. Usually he's excited about nursing first thing in the morning he pulls out his pacifier and gets excited. Well this morning he refused to nurse. He got excited, pulled out his bink and once he started nursing he pulled away and looked at me like I was crazy and grabbed his bink and put it back in his mouth. I tried again after his nap, he grabbed my boob, pushed it away and looked at me like I was crazy. He wanted nothing to do with it. He didn't nurse one single time today. Over the past few days, each time he nursed, I thought "this could be the last time." So I've savores those moments. I'm happy to have my body back. I've struggled to lose weight while breastfeeding and now I can focus on that before we start trying for baby #2. I can have a girls night! I can easily leave him with my mom for a date night with Josh! BUT no matter how hard I try to convince myself I'm not, I'm sad. I already miss it. I want him to wake up and I want to nurse him back to sleep. My baby isn't a baby anymore and I miss it...but I also love who he is right now and the stage he's in right now. I know I'm not done having babies so, god willing, I will be able to nurse another baby (or 2) and that eases the sadness. I guess I just can't believe that it's over. It feels like his babyhood is over. He's becoming such a little boy. I love it, I really do, but I miss that tiny baby he was. I never knew breastfeeding would mean so much to me or that it would make me feel this way. I am so thankful for the almost 12 months that my body was able to provide nutrition for my baby. And the bond that was formed from that. I'm proud of myself and of my body. Ok...I'm going to go drown my sorrows in ice cream now.

Fever

Jackson has had a fever on and off since Tuesday afternoon (it's Monday now so almost a week). I kept saying "if he's not better tomorrow I'll call the doctor and make an appointment". Well every morning he seemed better and then later in the day he'd have a fever, and some of the days he didn't and was fine. Friday and Saturday he was ok but yesterday the fever came back to 102.6 and he wasn't himself. This morning his temp was 99.0 which isn't bad but it had gone on too long so I called and made an appointment. We went in and saw a different dr then we usually see and I really liked him. He was really nice and cute too ;). Anyways J looks great. Ears, throat, lungs are all clear. Dr thinks it just must be something his body is fighting off. Since his fever was lower this morning he's hoping it's over and the fever will go away. He just said to keep a close eye on him. We've been really struggling with nursing lately. Sometimes he just doesn't want to nurse. I've been thawing my frozen milk and giving it to him in sippy cups and he drinks it really well but I don't have enough frozen milk to get us to his first birthday. I've been nursing him first thing in the am, before his naps and at bedtime but he usually only nurses well first thing in the morning. Well I talked to the dr and he said it's fine to start giving him whole milk. So I'm going to keep nursing first thing in the morning and before bed but cut out daytime nursing and just to sippy cups. I'm going to get some whole milk and start mixing it in with breastmilk. I did talk to him about how J was sensitive to dairy and it used to upset his tummy but he's had cheese and dairy and it hasn't bothered him so he said go ahead and start whole milk and see how he does and if it seems to upset his tummy then we can talk again and see.

I'm sad and happy to start weaning. I know I will miss it, but I'm excited to have my body back.
